The California Homebrew Circuit (CHBC) is a free, community-driven initiative connecting homebrewers across the state through friendly competition, shared learning, and cross-club collaboration.
To be included in the CHBC standings, competitions must meet the following criteria:
Each season, we aim to include 10â12 well-established and geographically diverse competitions. Selection favors events with a history of strong participation, quality judging, and reliable results reporting.
The CHBC has adopted a weighted points system that takes into account the size of each competition table. Points are awarded as follows:
Points are calculated using this formula:
Points = Base Score Ă ((Entries - Place) / Entries)Âł
Base Scores:
This formula rewards higher placements in larger, more competitive tables. For example, earning 1st in a 25-entry table is worth more than 1st in a 6-entry table.
Note: If the total number of entries in a category, table, or flight is not reported or verifiable, a default value of 6 entries will be used for point weighting calculations.
If top three weighted category placements per brewer, per competition, will count toward their CHBC total.
BOS points are awarded separately from category placements. A brewer may earn BOS points even if the winning entry isnât among their top three scoring entries.
Results are gathered from:
Efforts are made to verify accuracy and to attribute points to the correct individuals and clubs. If you spot an error or omission, please reach out on our Discord: đ Join the CHBC Discord.
To ensure fairness and consistency across the circuit, all competitions must publish results that:
CHBC reserves the right to delay or exclude competitions from the current season if results are incomplete, unverifiable, or posted in nonstandard formats.
An entrant is any brewer who medals in a competition listed on the published CHBC competition list. Residency in California is not required; brewers from any location are eligible.
Entrants are tracked exactly as they appear in the official published competition results. In instances where two brewers are listed as separate individualsâsuch as âJohn Doe, Jane Doeââonly the first brewer listed will be allocated any points.
If a team is listed as a shared nameâsuch as âJohn & Jane Doeââit will be treated as a single team entrant and tracked accordingly.
We make every effort to manually consolidate entries for the same brewer listed with slight name variations (e.g., âJohn A. Doeâ and âJohn Doeâ). However, this process is manual and not guaranteed to catch every discrepancy. If you believe your results are not being correctly credited, please contact us to request a correction.
Points are awarded to the club affiliation listed in the official results of each competition. Club points cannot be transferred to a different club after results are published. If a brewer competes under multiple clubs during the season, each clubâs points will reflect only the competitions where it was officially listed.
If a beer lists multiple brewers, CHBC assigns points to the first name listed unless otherwise requested. If you'd prefer a team name or another co-brewer to receive credit, please contact us on Discord or through the feedback formâweâre happy to update it.
If you notice anything that seems off in the resultsâwhether itâs a misspelled name, incorrect club, or score placementâplease let us know. We welcome corrections and are happy to review any concerns.
You can reach out anytime via our Discord or submit a request through the feedback form.
The current season runs from January 1 to December 31, 2025. Results are updated monthly (or as competitions report).
